The 6 steps to performing a breast self-examination

Step 1: Stand in front of mirror with arms relaxed by your side. Look for any changes in size shape of breast and nipples.

Step 2: Raise your arms in the air and look for any distortion of your breasts such as dimpling of the skin, deepening of the nipples, swelling in the arm pit.

Step 3: Using flat fingers of your right hand firmly press your Left breast tissues against the chest. Feel for any lump or thickened area.

Step 4: Repeat the process in your right breast using your left hand.

Step 5: Lie flat on your bed, and examine both breast tissues for any lump.

Step 6: Examine your left underarm area with your right hand looking for any lumps. Repeat this process on your right underarm using your left hand.
