Laparoscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy (LAVH) is a surgical procedure that removes the uterus and ovaries from the body using a laparoscope.
In most cases, a simple laparoscopic hysterectomy is sufficient. However, an abdominal or vaginal hysterectomy may be necessary in some cases. The best course of action for each patient depends on their medical condition, medical history, and current health status.
A laparoscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy is advised, when there are cases of fibroids, abnormal uterine bleeding, endometriosis, or a probable expansion of any tissue in the uterus lining
This procedure is performed in a specialized operating room with the patient under general anesthesia. The surgeon first makes an incision near the belly button, then inserts a laparoscope through the incision and inflates the body with carbon dioxide to make all of the organs visible. Small metal tubes, trocars, and other microsurgery equipment are utilized to execute this procedure through incisions created on the belly. A camera mounted on the top captures images of the body and displays them on the monitor screen.
The fallopian tubes, ovaries, and other pelvic tissues are then detached from the uterus. They are separated from the ligaments and their blood supply is cut off. The specimen is returned through an incision, and when all of these have been extracted, they are stitched back together with stitches.
This surgery is highly recommended due to some of the following benefits:
